The truth of the matter..

A brief insight into the conversations between the Prometheus Ink crew follows: by no means even scratching the surface of what turned out to be a debate about fernery. (Don’t ask me how we got to there.. )

Truth

Truth has always been a favourite subject of mine, particularly after a conversation with a friend gave me the perfect anology.

Imagine for a moment you are sitting across the table from a friend, and between you on the table sits an apple.

Now, you look at the apple and see a tasty, healthy piece of fruit, and perhaps you think about taking it and biting into it’s skin.

Your friend however, seeing the apple from another angle, can see that the apple is in fact rotten at the core, and may even think you disgusting when they see you look at the apple with hungry glee.
They may try to stop you from eating the apple, if they are clever enough to realise the whole truth of the apple’s treacherous profile.
Perhaps, if the person across from you was not your friend, (or perhaps even if they were) you may not believe them when they tell you the apple is rotten – perhaps you attribute this to that persons own selfish desire to have your delicious pple to themselves, or because of some ‘grudge’ they have against you that makes them determined to ensure you don’t enjoy your apple.

Either way, we typically see ‘truth’ subjectively, based upon our own experience, our own beliefs, our own prejudices, our own ignorance or lack of complet knowledge of any given thing.

Truth, therefore, is something that exists regardless and irrespective of our own interpretation, even if we define our ‘personal truth’ based on what we see before our very eyes.

Ultimately, we can never truly understand the truth of a thing, as we are limited by these perceptive filters, inherent in our individuality and sense of self.

Paradoxically, we can say that the only truth we can ever know is that we can’t really know the truth of anything.
